BAKU, 16 May (BelTA) – Belarus will do everything to ensure peace in Ukraine. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement after negotiations with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, BelTA has learned.

During the negotiations the presidents discussed in detail the situation in their regions and informed each other about the ongoing events.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I informed him about what is going on in our region due to the conflict in Ukraine. In great detail. Our evaluations and points of view are close or the same. You know our position. Things are not simple for us now. But we will do everything to ensure peace in Ukraine. And we will advance in this direction. The experience of Azerbaijan’s post-war recovery, peaceful development is very important for our region as well.”

The head of state remarked that things are not calm in the Caucasian region either. “Thank god a very powerful, normal leader embodied in Azerbaijan has emerged here. You are capable of controlling the Caucasian region. You are responsible not only for Azerbaijan. You are already responsible for the situation in Caucasus. We, the nations that live outside Caucasus strongly hope for it. It is an additional burden for you although you have plenty of your own problems. Nevertheless, it is unavoidable. Time has chosen you as Belarusians like to say. You are responsible for the Caucasian region as a leader,” the president stressed.
