Belarus' ambassador takes stock of cooperation with Russia's Tatarstan

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus' Ambassador to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik told journalists about cooperation between Belarus and Russia's Tatarstan during his working trip to Tatarstan, BelTA has learned.

According to Aleksandr Rogozhnik, bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Tatarstan is very vibrant. Bilateral cooperation greatly benefits from excellent relations between the two leaders. “By now we have approached a $1 billion mark in mutual trade. We have discussed projects with the head of the republic that would allow us to hit this mark. Today, we have talked about a large project to renovate old trams. A corresponding program will be developed. So far, we are looking at 100 trams. One of the partners of the program will be our Belkommunmash. These will be modern trams. Renovating the tram fleet will be at least twice cheaper than buying new vehicles,” the ambassador said.

Projects in the petrochemical complex and joint initiatives in the manufacturing industry were also discussed. “A meeting was held with the KAMAZ director general. Several years ago, we drafted an entire program of supplying the component parts that KAMAZ used to import from the European Union. Such work is yielding results. The component supplies were estimated at RUB7 billion last year. And we will keep it up, because many components are in the development stage,” he said.

During his working visit, Aleksandr Rogozhnik visited Trading and Production Company MTZ-Tatarstan (TPC MTZ-Tatarstan), where he studied the operation of the assembly shop, the service center for trucks, and the exposition of Belarusian equipment.

In addition, the ceremony of the official transfer of 19 gas-powered tractors and 20 MAZ trucks to TPC MTZ-Tatarstan took place.
