Ambassador: Belarus expands trade with Latin America despite challenges

MOSCOW, 15 April (BelTA) - Despite objective challenges, Belarus continues to increase its trade with Latin America, Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov said at the 5th Belarus-Latin America forum in Moscow on 15 April, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is actively developing cooperation with distant countries. Exports to Latin America have grown 1.4 times, to Southeast and East Asia 1.2 times, and to Africa by 6.6%. It is encouraging that we are steadily increasing mutual trade with Latin American countries,” the ambassador said.

He noted that several objective factors have constrained trade development with Latin America. “First and foremost, it is the COVID 19 pandemic. Today we are working to restore trade to pre-pandemic levels. For reference: trade with Latin American countries amounted to $1.4 billion in 2019, of which Belarusian exports accounted for $764.3 million. In 2025, we achieved a 1.4-fold increase in trade with Latin America compared to 2024. I am confident that this upward trend will continue in the coming years,” Ambassador Yuri Seliverstov emphasized.

“Belarus has much to offer foreign partners. I am convinced that your presence at today’s forum clearly demonstrates your genuine interest in developing cooperation with our country. In this regard, I would like to quote the words of Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko, spoken just recently, last Friday, 10 April, when receiving credentials from new foreign ambassadors: ‘We are open to your initiatives for developing bilateral relations, whether in trade, investment, science, culture, education, sports, or public diplomacy’,” the diplomat said.

He assured that Latin American countries can count on Belarus’ support in all areas. “I invite you to become more closely acquainted not only with our culture but also with our capabilities. We have something to offer each of your countries. The doors of Belarus, and of the Belarusian Embassy, are always open to you. This is a piece of our country here in the center of Moscow. I assure you that we are always glad to welcome you. My team and I are committed to constructive cooperation and ready for open dialogue and joint implementation of all our initiatives for the benefit of our countries,” the ambassador added.

The forum brought together ambassadors and senior diplomats responsible for economic cooperation from about 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The event was organized by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Center for Export Support under the MFA, and the Belarusian Embassy in Russia.
