Belarus, Russia to discuss protection of transboundary waters

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – The 10th meeting of the joint Belarus-Russia commission on protection and rational use of transboundary waters will take place in Gomel on 23-25 May, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The agenda of the meeting will include issues related to water quality and the state of water ecosystems, the hydroeconomic situation, cross-border monitoring of underground waters in the river basins of the Dnieper and the Western Dvina. The Belarusian delegation will be led by co-chair of the commission, Belarus' Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Andrei Khmel.

The commission meets as part of the implementation of the provisions of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes and for the implementation of the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Russia on cooperation in the protection and rational use of cross-border waters.
