Belarus hopes to raise bilateral trade with Indonesia to $1bn

ISTANBUL, 14 April (BelTA) – Belarus hopes to enhance trade and economic cooperation with Indonesia and raise the bilateral trade to more than $1 billion, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Vice President of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla in Istanbul on 14 April, BelTA informs.

According to the Belarusian head of state, during his visit to Indonesia several years ago the sides concluded a number of agreements which are being implemented today. “We gradually increase our bilateral trade, but I think that the best years are still ahead of Belarus and Indonesia. I am convinced that we will manage to ramp up the trade turnover and, as we have planned, to exceed $1 billion,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

During the meeting the Belarusian leader focused on the prospects of cooperation in the manufacturing industry. Belarus is ready to set up joint ventures on the territory of Indonesia taking into account the fact that this country needs freight vehicles and other equipment which are produced in Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that the Belarusian side also expects that the leadership of Indonesia will arrive in Minsk. “After this visit we would be able not only to raise the bilateral trade but also expand the range of products that we sell and buy,” the Belarusian leader said.

The President also emphasized that the opening of the Indonesian Embassy in Belarus would give an impetus to the enhancement of bilateral relations. “It would help us solve pending issues, promote your goods in Belarus, on the Eurasian market and in Europe,” he said.

Jusuf Kalla, in turn, reaffirmed Indonesia's interest in the development of friendly relations with Belarus and the enhancement of cooperation in various fields.
