MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) - Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus failed to reach the singles semifinals at the 2nd European Games, BelTA has learned.
In today's quarterfinal match, the leader of the Belarusian team played against his long-time rival Timo Boll of Germany. The athletes showed a fantastic game but success was on the German athlete's side. Vladimir Samsonov was off to a good start winning the first set 12-10 but then lost the four straight 11-6, 16-14, 12-10 and 11-7. on his way to the quarterfinal the 43-year-old Belarus defeated Italy's Niagol Stoyanov 4-3, Russian Kirill Skachkov 4-2. At the European Games in Baku Vladimir Samsonov won the silver medal losing in the deciding match to Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov. In Minsk, Vladimir Samsonov teaming up with Pavel Platonov and Aliaksandr Khanin will play in the team tournament at the 2nd European Games.
