
MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian junior football team claimed bronze at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan, BelTA has learned.
The football tournament in Qabala featured teams of players aged under 16 from six countries. After a scoreless draw with Russia in their tournament opener on 27 September, Belarus secured a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan in their second match on 29 September, with goals from Hleb Yemelianau and Marat Lazarevich.
Russia U-16 finished first in the group on tie-breakers, sending Belarus into a third-place playoff against Tajikistan U-16. Belarusian team sealed the bronze with a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals by Anton Vial and Hleb Bardachou. The Russian and Azerbaijani junior teams will battle for 3rd CIS Games gold on October 4.
