MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Victoria Azarenka of Belarus has reached the Madrid Open doubles round of Last 16, BelTA has learned.
In the opener Victoria Azarenka and Ashlyn Krueger of the United States defeated Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands and Asia Muhammad of the United States, 6-4, 6-4. In the second round Victoria Azarenka and Ashlyn Krueger will face Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova and Peyton Stearns of the United States. In the singles opening round Victoria Azarenka lost to Serbia’s Olga Danilovic, 4-6, 2-6.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka will open her campaign against Anna Blinkova of Russia from the second round. The Belarusian won the event in 2021 and 2023. Last year she lost to Poland’s Iga Swiatek in the final.
The current edition will be over on 4 May. The winner will earn €985,000 and 1,000 points.
