Aryna Sabalenka off to a winning start at Wimbledon

MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – World No. 4 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus was off to a good start at Wimbledon, BelTA has learned.

Second seed Aryna Sabalenka eased past Romanian qualifier Monica Niculescu (191) 6-1 6-4 on Monday to reach the second round of Wimbledon. The Belarusian will take on either American qualifier Danielle Lao (239) or British wildcard Katie Boulter (219) in the second round.

Belarusian Egor Gerasimov (73) drew British wildcard Jay Clarke (230) for the opener of the gentlemen's singles on 28 June.

Tomorrow, 29 June, Victoria Azarenka (14) will play against Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova (161) while Aliaksandra Sasnovich (100) will face the renowned Serena Williams of the United States (8), the seven-time Wimbledon champion. Olga Govortsova (136) will play against another U.S. representative Coco Vandeweghe (203).

Ilya Ivashko (79) will open the season's third Grand Slam tournament with a match against Spaniard Jaume Munar (69).
