"On Point"
MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – In a new episode of BelTA’s V Teme [On Point] project, Mikhail Delyagin, Deputy Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of the Russian State Duma and Doctor of Economics, weighed in on who might become the next president of the United States of America.
The next U.S. presidential election is set for November 2028. Mikhail Delyagin noted that it is impossible to predict global developments. Nevertheless, he believes the world economy is heading toward disarray, and the United States will not escape unscathed.
“Who will be scapegoated?” said Mikhail Delyagin. “The Republicans have two very prominent, recognizable leaders: [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio and [Vice President] JD Vance. Trump’s inner circle leans toward Marco Rubio. He is a man of the old elites, even though he is young, energetic, handsome, and so on. Vance, by contrast, is a man of the future. He embodies a coalition of digital and industrial capital. He is someone who attempted to breathe new life into America’s ‘Rust Belt’, a dying industrial base, using information technology. The effort may have been doomed from the outset, but it was aimed in precisely the right direction.”
At the same time, the expert argues that all else being equal, the Democrats would defeat the Republicans. But things are far from seamless for the Democratic Party either. “The Democrats are representatives of reactionary forces. They represent the financial capital of a bygone era. They are rotting away in bureaucratic convulsions and will not allow any new leader to emerge. They will not allow another Obama to emerge. They might even find him, but they will not nominate him,” he said.
In his view, the Democratic Party could nominate either current California Governor Gavin Newsom or former Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
“Kamala Harris is an astonishing figure. Biden made her vice president precisely so that all of America would rally behind him. Because the mere thought of Kamala Harris becoming president united Democrats and Republicans in a shared cause: everyone collectively prayed for Biden’s health. She is the embodiment of insanity. So the Democrats will not be able to offer anything good. They are rotting from within. That is my theory. They could prove me wrong by nominating a new, bright, beautiful, likable, and proper Obama. But I don’t believe it will happen. What I see is a dying bureaucratic organism incapable of producing anything decent,” said Mikhail Delyagin.
