Trucker predicts great losses for Lithuanian carriers

OSHMYANY DISTRICT, 10 November (BelTA) – Lithuanian carriers will lose a great deal due to the current situation on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, Mikhail Goroshko, a driver for a Lithuanian company, told journalists, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Goroshko mentioned that he entered Belarus on 27 October. “I’ve been driving between borders. And now I can’t even get to another one,” he stated.

“We mostly transport Chinese cargo. I already stood in line at Brest, but they turned me away. They redirected me here with an official order, so I came. Because I’m carrying AliExpress goods, Lithuania won’t allow me to enter,” the driver explained, adding that his company is now working on finding a way to deliver the cargo to its destination by transshipping it to another vehicle. “So, it turns out I will have to join the queue here empty,” he said.

Mikhail Goroshko noted that he cannot leave his vehicle: “As drivers, we are responsible for the truck. We can’t just go home.”
“It’s a very difficult situation. Lithuanian carriers will lose a lot. Our company is very large and we are heavily reliant on transporting Chinese cargo. That is, we used to load trucks in Europe for Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, all CIS countries,” the truck driver said. “And we delivered Chinese cargo all over Europe (and to the UK): clothes, AliExpress parcels, car batteries. Now, I have no idea how this is going to work.”

The Lithuanian government adopted a resolution restricting and suspending traffic across the Lithuanian state border on 29 October 2025. The document imposes restrictions on the movement of individuals and transport via the Medininkai (Kamenny Log on the Belarusian side) checkpoint until 1.00 a.m. (Belarusian time) on 1 December. The clearance of persons and vehicles at the Lithuanian Šalčininkai (Benyakoni on the Belarusian side) checkpoint is fully halted.

On 10 November the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Lithuanian trucks on the Belarusian territory near the Kamenny Log and Benyakoni checkpoints will be relocated to designated parking areas for safety and security purposes.

In a move to manage freight traffic, Belarus temporarily suspended the exit of all trucks with Lithuanian plates as from 9.00 in the morning on 10 November, the State Border Committee of Belarus informed. The Belarusian border service is monitoring the situation and remains on constant alert for any developments.
