MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – The animal park in the city of Baranovichi was happy to announce that the stowaway raccoon Esenia has mated with local male raccoon Maksim, BelTA has learned.
According to the park, raccoon Maksim is more approachable and better adapted socially. “He is more comfortable around people and is ready to help Esenia to adjust to her new life," the park representatives noted.
Esenia stowed away in a sea car container that traveled to Belarus from the USA and was found by customs officers in Grodno. The “foreigner” was quarantined at the Oshmyany district veterinary station and then moved to the animal park in Baranovichi, which is among the three most visited tourist attractions in Brest Oblast.
The stowaway raccoon, believed to be a male and named Senya, was in fact a female. A new name was chosen, and she became Esenia, after which the raccoon was issued a passport.
The park promises to keep an eye on the new couple and share updates with visitors.
