Senator: Poles, Lithuanians do not approve of the policy to destabilize Belarus

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) - Poles and Lithuanians do not approve of their politicians' actions to destabilize the situation in Belarus, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Yekaterina Serafinovich told BelTA.

“Roman Protasevich's speech at the briefing organized by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shone a spotlight on what's going on in the Western media self-proclaimed as ‘democratic'. What did we see at the press conference? Journalists of a foreign media company walked out of it because, in their opinion, Protasevich was forced to participate in it. The key word here is ‘in their opinion'. Why didn't they even try to learn another opinion? You are journalists, you have an opportunity to do so, and you just walk away? Is that professionalism? Or they do not need the truth? Then everything falls into its place. The Belarusian famous writer described such a situation very well: “Nothing hurts like the truth”. Then there is no need to call political tricks as journalism,” the senator said.

She is convinced that there is also no need for some politicians of the neighboring countries - Poland and Lithuania - to pass off their desire to worsen relations with Belarus as the true aspiration of the Polish and Lithuanian people.

“We do not live in a vacuum: Poles and Lithuanians do not approve of the policy to destabilize the situation in Belarus. They approve of the measures taken in our country to preserve the state sovereignty. We have a lot in common with Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and other countries, and we want to live in good neighborhood with all of them. The reality is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so. I believe, however, that common sense will prevail, and the historical, cultural and economic ties that exist between our countries will not be destroyed completely but on the contrary, will rebound and develop further,” said Yekaterina Serafinovich.
