Role of customs service in ensuring Belarus’ economic security emphasized

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) - Serious attention is being paid to the development of transport corridors and logistics centers in Belarus, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko told reporters, BelTA has learned.

On 19 September, on the eve of Customs Officers’ Day, the Parliament Speaker took part in a ceremony to launch a new complex as part of the modernization and expansion of one of the country's largest transport and logistics centers. It is here, among other functions, that trains destined for the People's Republic of China are assembled. Additionally, Igor Sergeyenko met with the staff of the Minsk Regional Customs to discuss the legislative activities of the House of Representatives and the significance of the People’s Unity Day for Belarus.
"Today, the customs authorities reliably ensure national economic security and operate across the entire country," Igor Sergeyenko noted.

He added that there are 11 transport and logistics centers operating in Belarus. With the implementation of the project near Minsk, the reconstruction of the largest of these centers, which spans over 23.5 hectares, has been effectively completed. "The center is capable of handling large volumes of cargo. It integrates both railway and road transport infrastructure. The new terminal meets modern requirements, enables the storage of various types of products, including through powerful refrigeration units. New opportunities are emerging for our processing enterprises," Igor Sergeyenko emphasized.
The House of Representatives places significant emphasis on refining the legislation governing customs activities. Recently, it approved the amendments to the law "On Customs Regulation" to align it with current realities, and ratified four intergovernmental agreements on customs matters with India, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, and Nicaragua.

"They are designed primarily to simplify customs clearance procedures for various types of cargo between Belarus and these countries. I am confident that this area will continue to develop and improve further. Belarus is successfully engaged in many associations such as the EAEU, the Union State, and is a full member of the SCO, which provides additional opportunities for the development of trade and economic relations," Igor Sergeyenko noted.

He congratulated all customs officers and veterans of the customs service on their upcoming professional holiday. In recognition of exemplary performance of duties and significant contributions to the youth policy, employees were presented with commendation letters from the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
