Rahmon urges tapping IPA's potential to boost CIS cooperation

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) - The CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) platform is a relevant venue for constructive dialogue among member states, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan said at a meeting with heads of parliamentary delegations, BelTA has learned.

“The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly is a relevant platform of the CIS for comprehensive, constructive dialogue among the participating states,” said Emomali Rahmon.

According to him, comprehensive work on a wide range of cooperation issues is carried out on this platform. Alongside matters of forming and harmonizing national legislations, it also encompasses many other key areas of cooperation. These include, in particular, politics, security, economics, as well as cooperation in the social and humanitarian sector. “I believe there is significant potential in this area, and it is important for us to utilize it to the fullest for the benefit of our peoples,” he said.

Emomali Rahmon added that great importance is attached to the current event in the context of Tajikistan's chairmanship of the CIS. “Within the framework of implementing the concept of Tajikistan's chairmanship in the CIS, our activities have been aimed at the practical realization of the goals and objectives we have set,” he emphasized.

Before the meeting, the president of Tajikistan gave the heads of the parliamentary delegations a brief tour of the Palace of the Nation, recounting the history of this majestic building's creation. Prior to this, a joint photo session was held, before which Emomali Rahmon spoke with each head of a parliamentary delegation. He asked Natalya Kochanova, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus: “How is my brother?”. The speaker, in turn, conveyed the warmest wishes from Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The majestic and monumental Palace of the Nation is the heart of modern Dushanbe and an impressive symbol of Tajikistan's independence. It serves as the official residence of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and is a key venue for state events, meetings with foreign delegations, and international summits.
