Public welfare home built in Belarusian Polotsk thanks to Chinese investments

VITEBSK, 16 October (BelTA) – A 92-apartment residential house built in Polotsk using Chinese investments was commissioned on 16 October, BelTA learned from Artur Strod, First Deputy Director General of the Capital Construction Office of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming, Vitebsk Oblast Vice Governor Vladimir Belous, representatives of municipal government agencies, construction companies, which helped build the house, and local residents took part in the opening ceremony. The ambassador said: “This project is a proof of the sincere attitude of the Chinese nation to the Belarusian one. It also represents an important initiative aimed at advancing bilateral strategic partnership.”

The festive event marked the end of the second stage of the project, which provides for building public welfare housing using technical and economic aid from the Chinese government. Four multifamily houses with the total area of 18,400m2 (336 apartments) were built in Novopolotsk, Vitebsk, Lepel, and Polotsk in this period (December 2017 – September 2019).

The first stage of the project ended in 2017. Two residential houses were built in Vitebsk and Orsha using gratuitous Chinese aid during this stage.

The Chinese government provided Br30.2 million worth of gratuitous aid during the first stage and the second one to help build over 31,000m2 of housing.

The third stage provides for building five residential houses in Dokshitsy, Novolukoml, Senno, Tolochin, and Orsha. As many as 268 apartments will be built with the total area of 14,900m2. Some Br24 million worth of investments will be required. The work is supposed to begin in early 2020. A package of documents is being prepared. It will be forwarded to the Economy Ministry by 1 November so that the ministry could submit it to Chinese experts for evaluation.
