Opinion: Ukraine's elites are not independent

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – Ukraine's elites led by the president are not independent, Aleksei Dzermant, a political analyst and a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, wrote in his Telegram channel, BelTA has learned.

“I have already said more than once that the outlook for relations with this country is negative. The current Ukrainian elites, headed by the president, are not independent. Their Western patrons have already decided to end all relations with us, and this will inevitably happen. Of course, time is needed to prepare for this and compensate for serious economic losses, but this must be done,” the expert is sure.

According to him, Russia and Belarus need to coordinate their policies on Ukraine, including a diplomatic, information and defense policy. “The Ukrainian regime is extremely reactionary and destructive, the rise to power of forces friendly to us is unlikely, so we need to proceed from the fact that the change of government is possible only through a popular uprising. This requires a different approach to media coverage, broadcasting in Ukraine, in general, changes in goal-setting in relation to this country,” the analyst said.
