Opinion: Glorification of war criminals is unacceptable, extremely dangerous

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Glorification of war criminals is unacceptable and extremely dangerous, Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus Vyacheslav Danilovich told BelTA commenting on the event to commemorate the so-called ‘cursed soldiers' that took place in the office of the Brest Forum of Polish Local Initiatives.

“It is absolutely unacceptable to hold such events, because Romuald Rajs was actually involved in the genocide of Belarusian people living in Bialystok Voivodeship. His henchmen burned five villages and killed 79 people. Therefore, for us, Belarusians, the glorification of this ‘cursed soldier' is absolutely unacceptable and incomprehensible. All the more so when the younger generation is involved in this,” Vyacheslav Danilovich said.

According to him, the glorification of war criminals is extremely dangerous. “Naturally, if you do not learn your lessons, the history will teach you another lesson. It is extremely dangerous and all the more unacceptable in the territory of our country. It is also unacceptable when Polish diplomats are part of it. This is sheer disregard for the legacy of the host country. This is disrespect for its history and the history of Belarusian people,” the rector said.
