Minsk’s public transport system features 322 routes

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) - Minsk’s public transport system features 322 routes, Yuri Supranovich, Director of the Capital City Transport and Communications enterprise, said at a press conference at BelTA’s press center dedicated to Motorist and Road Workers' Day.

Yuri Supranovich noted that approximately 1,500 buses, trolleybuses, electric buses, and trams operate across the city daily. Routed taxis are also in operation. The route network is constantly being optimized. Over the past five years, the city has opened 41 new routes and closed 21. All in all, there are 322 public transport routes, including 30 express ride routes. The focus is on developing a system of transport interchange hubs to make it convenient for passengers to transfer between different modes of transport.

The sector is also assimilating new technologies. Specifically, a free voice service providing vehicle arrival times is now operational. To use it, one needs to dial the short number 488 and tell the automated system the stop code. This code can be found on the schedule sign near the QR code. The voice assistant will then inform of the arrival times of the nearest buses, trolleybuses, and trams. The service is free of charge.

“Significant attention is being paid to expanding the methods and forms of fare payment. In particular, in the first half of the year, the Oplati (Pay) system was launched in the metro, enabling the sale of travel passes. We are testing a bank card payment system on the first trolleybus route, and next month we will try to accelerate the process as much as possible by launching it on the first bus route. We are fine-turning a chatbot for passenger feedback, collecting evaluations and suggestions, and addressing shortcomings,” Yuri Supranovich said. The pilot project will be scaled up. By 2026, the number of vehicles where payment can be made using this method will increase significantly.

Another focus is the electrification of the vehicle fleet, which includes plans to renew the bus fleet.
Yuri Supranovich noted that on weekdays, approximately 1.8 million people use public transport in Minsk daily, of which 1.1 million use ground transport. In January-September 2025, the public transport in the Belarusian capital carried over 540 million passengers, compared to 324 million during the same period 2024 and 285 million in January-September 2023.
