Minsk hosts forum for young journalists

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) - The 12th Forum for Young Journalists Beyond Clickbait has kicked off in the Belarusian capital, BelTA has learned.

The event has drawn over 250 participants - staff from a wide array of media outlets, ranging from major capital city media holdings to regional press. At the forum, experts will discuss the most pressing issues: cybersecurity, survival in the age of AI and disinformation, and responsible content creation.

Opening remarks were delivered by First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Vladimir Pertsov and Information Minister Marat Markov.

Young journalists had the opportunity to pose their questions to the speakers.

Maria Borzova, a correspondent for the children’s newspaper Zorka, joined the editorial staff this year and is eager to find new approaches to her work. “I very much hope the forum experts will teach us how to create relevant content without resorting to clickbait. We are here to learn, improve, and draw creative, non-standard ideas and trends,” she said.

Maya Guryanova, editor of the newspaper Kiravets, who promotes the district publication online, aims to learn secrets not covered in journalism school. “The work is directly linked to the newspaper’s website, posting, and distributing content on it. For me, it is very important to gain new knowledge so that our local media stays relevant. I also work with social media, so there has never been a greater need to improve and stay competitive,” the forum participant said.

At the end of the event, an awards ceremony will be held for the winners of the 4th national competition Press Code.

In addition, forum guests can view the BelTA exhibition titled Belarus. Takeoff. The exhibition reflects the thirty-year journey of independent Belarus. Through 40 posters, the display allows visitors to enjoy the atmosphere of the early 1990s, a time when the country faced difficult challenges, and to see how, having overcome all trials, it achieved stability and progress.
