MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – Belarusian militants considered the Brest direction and the town of Malorita as a possible invasion route into Belarus, Vasily Veremeichik, a mercenary, who participated in the hostilities in Ukraine as a member of the Kalinovsky Regiment recognized as a terrorist organization in Belarus, said on air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA learned.
The Belarusian mercenary fled Ukraine to Lithuania, from there to Vietnam where he was arrested and extradited under a criminal case.
According to Vasily Veremeichik, Belarusian mercenaries train at various training grounds with Ukrainian instructors and with instructors from the so-called Foreign Legion. They include former servicemen of NATO countries.
“Lithuanians, Poles, Americans, British.... I also met Colombians and Argentines,” Vasily Veremeichik said. “For example, our instructor in demining was a Lithuanian with the call sign Ded who served as a deminer and head of the demining group in the Lithuanian armed forces for more than 20 years, if my memory serves me right”. Vasily Veremeichik emphasized, the mercenaries are “trained to fit specific combat realities”.
“The Kalinovsky Regiment did develop a ‘liberation’ strategy’ [for Belarus]. But its public part is just a set of slogans, template questions/answers without specific measures. There is a specific part about ‘forceful pressure on the regime’ but without specific measures. I know that there is a classified part of the ‘liberation strategy’, the secret protocols with specific measures and possible scenarios,” he said.
According to the mercenary, the essence of this part is quite simple. It is a set of measures developed with the help of “serious organizations”, namely Western special services, in particular, the special services of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine. “The strategy is quite simple: to occupy a certain part of Belarus by force, to declare that it's liberated, to invite ‘legitimate representatives of democratic forces’ to this territory,” Vasily Veremeichik explained. “Then turn to a foreign state such as Poland or Ukraine for help and support.
He also named possible routes of entry for the militants. The Brest direction and the town of Malorita were considered. Thus, the matter is about an invasion from the territory of Ukraine.
