Congress delegate outlines years-long revamp in Belarus’ timber industry

BREST, 23 December (BelTA) - Forestry enterprises in Brest Oblast have laid out multi-year investment projects for wood processing, Aleksandr Demidko, Director General of the Brest State Production Forestry Association and a delegate to the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, told BelTA as he commented on the President’s Address to the Belarusian people and Parliament.
In his address, the head of state placed special emphasis on the forestry sector, calling for more efficient processing using available resources.

This year, forestry enterprises in Brest Oblast have been implementing six investment projects. For instance, charcoal production saws have been installed in the Drogichin and Stolin forestry enterprises. The Telekhany forestry enterprise is assembling a wood processing line to increase timber output. The products are in demand domestically and are also shipped for export.

The Gantsevichi forestry enterprise launched a workshop for manufacturing pallets this year to supply companies in Brest Oblast. Similar projects are planned for Drogichin District and Luninets District. “The annual demand for pallets in Brest Oblast is about 1 million units. We expect that the production capacities of these three forestry enterprises will meet the shortfall,” said Aleksandr Demidko.

Additionally, two productions for manufacturing log house kits from rounded timber have been established at the Kobrin experimental and Pruzhany forestry enterprises. “They produce rounded logs with a diameter of up to 24 cm. We have several standard designs for building houses from this material. In 2026, we will begin constructing rental housing from these log house kits to provide for our employees. There is also an option to purchase such rental housing,” the director general of the Brest State Production Forestry Association said.

According to Aleksandr Demidko, the forestry enterprises are constantly working to expand their areas of activity to deepen wood processing and produce higher value-added goods. “Projects for modernizing wood processing workshops are planned until 2030. The forestry enterprises of Brest Oblast are annually increasing export deliveries of lumber to far-abroad countries while fully meeting the domestic market’s needs for timber and lumber,” he concluded.
