Collection of Skaryna's books donated to National Library of Tajikistan

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) - On 14 February, the International Book Giving Day, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Tajikistan Viktor Denisenko gave the National Library of Tajikistan a 20-volume series "The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna", BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

The books were published for the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing. The well-known graphic artist Konstantin Vashchenko worked on the design of the multi-volume edition.

"Topical issues of bilateral cooperation in library affairs were discussed during a meeting with Director of Tajikistan's National Library Dzhumakhon Faizalizoda. The parties also discussed organization of joint events, and exchange of experience in library operations," the Belarusian diplomatic mission said.

Ambassador Viktor Denisenko noted that libraries are essential for the preservation and transfer of historical and cultural heritage. Libraries play a significant role in the system of intercultural interaction of fraternal peoples.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan were established on 5 September 1996. Embassies have been opened in both countries. Belarus and Tajikistan maintain active dialogue at the highest and high level. Bilateral meetings are held regularly within the framework of integration unions. The legal framework of cooperation includes more than 60 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental international agreements. Belarus and Tajikistan constructively interact in international organizations, provide each other with mutual support. In 2004, Belarus and Tajikistan set up an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
