Call for efforts to develop political party system in Belarus

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – There is a natural need for the development of the political party system in Belarus. Vladimir Pertsov, Director of the Belarusian office of the international television and radio company MTRK Mir, made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Pertsov stressed: “A historic period has come when a natural need for political party system development has emerged. Nobody needs the artificial development of the party system: neither the country, nor the country's leadership, nor the people. Because it resolves nothing and accomplishes nothing, at least for the sake of people and the state as a whole.”

Vladimir Pertsov also stressed that in the course of reforming the party system in Belarus it is necessary to ban parties, which are financed by foreign sources and act in the interests of foreign countries and forces. Vladimir Pertsov believes that only the parties that enjoy support inside the country can act in the interests of people and for the sake of the country's future.

In turn, the political analyst Aleksei Belyayev noted that modern political parties in many countries are not the political associations everyone has come to think about and talk about. Today's political parties fight for any voter and generally follow no ideology, the expert believes.

“Those are parties of the populist kind. This is why when we talk about party construction, we should bear in mind these problems. No doubt we don't need populist parties that will only follow mood swings of the voters, give impracticable promises, and sell their votes when they rise to power,” Aleksei Belyayev stated. “We have to launch the process of creation of a new party system because the stagnation we had 20 years ago demonstrated that a number of parties have virtually died while those destined to replace them have yet to be born. This is why it seems to me that what the party system in Belarus will be like is the most interesting thing. But we need one.”

Aleksei Belyayev added that the new party system should cater to the entire society.
