BelTA’s Superposition. Parallel Worlds book wins CIS contest prize

MOSCOW, 4 December (BelTA) – BelTA’s book Superposition. Parallel Worlds has won a special diploma of the 22nd international CIS contest Art of the Book. The award ceremony took place in the exhibition center Gostiny Dvor in Moscow on 4 December as part of the international book fair non/fictio№27, BelTA has learned.

The book has been published by BelTA’s publishing division with assistance of the Belarusian Information Ministry. The book was inspired by BelTA’s exhibition Parallel Worlds. Posters of the exhibition reflect two worlds: the creation and development world of the state and the destruction and degradation world of the opposition. The project’s photos vividly demonstrate what Belarusian authorities have accomplished in the last 30 years and what has happened to the opposition over these years. Actions and slogans, creation and destruction are part and parcel of the exhibition and the book.
The texts for the Superposition. Parallel Worlds book were written by the head of the analytical center EcooM, member of the scientific advisory group under the State Secretariat of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Musiyenko. He has witnessed and taken part in many political processes in the country over the last 30 years. The texts are based on facts and statistics of various years. At the same time the author looks at them from the point of view of his own experience.

The book is a collection of materials from state-run and opposition printed media of the mid-1990s, which are not available to the general public. The materials reflect the country’s life at the beginning of the efforts to establish Belarus’ independence. They also reflect the problems and challenges Belarusians faced and how the young state tackled them.
The publication contains archive materials, up-to-date statistics, and screenshots of websites of modern mass media to demonstrate different positions of “the parallel worlds”. Readers are offered an opportunity to analyze many years of the opposition’s attempts to misrepresent Belarus’ reality on the one hand and efforts of the authorities to develop the country on the other hand.

BelTA’s project Superposition. Parallel Worlds has previously won the Grand Prix of the national printed mass media contest Zolotaya Litera [Golden Letter]. Its presentations have been held virtually in all the oblasts of Belarus, in many higher education institutions and other educational institutions of the country.
A total of 66 publications from six countries have been submitted for this year’s international CIS contest Art of the Book. Publishing houses of the Republic of Belarus have won four 1st grade prizes and three 2nd grade prizes. The Grand Prix of the contest went to Aleksandr Alekseyev’s and Oleg Lukashevich’s book Legacy of Belarus.
