Belarusian specialists to build theater in Russia's Primorsky Krai

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists will build a theater in Russia's Primorsky Krai using the turn-key principle. Primorsky Krai Governor Oleg Kozhemyako made the statement after he met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 25 March, BelTA has learned.

In his words, it will be a large-scale project and the finished building will enhance the image of the two countries.

The theater will be part of a large-scale cultural and expo center, which the governor expects to become a true jewel of the entire Asian Pacific region. Oleg Kozhemyako mentioned the Sydney Opera House, Australia as an example. “One of the key items on the agenda was the involvement of large Belarusian civil engineering companies in the implementation of the most important presidential project – the cultural and expo center in Vladivostok. It is quite a large, spacious building with a modern architectural design, which should embellish not only Russia but the entire Asian Pacific region. Expositions from the Tretyakov Gallery, the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, and the State Museum of Oriental Art will be represented there. The theater will also have the Mariinsky Theater's stage where people could spectate operas and ballets,” Oleg Kozhemyako said.

“It will be a considerable contribution if Belarusian construction workers do it. It is a project of the two presidents, definitely something to remember for centuries when we will be able to see such a magnificent architectural building that will attract tourists over there, in Vladivostok, in Russia's Far East outpost. Aleksandr Lukashenko has approved of getting Belarusian construction companies involved,” the governor said.

In his words, it will be a turn-key project although certainly foreign specialists will be invited to take care of some things considering the fact that a theater stage is a very complicated piece of engineering.

“It should be a brand just like the Sydney Opera House, a face of the two countries, of the two presidents,” the head of the Primorsky Krai government stressed. “It is a very important object. I hope Belarusian construction workers can do it.”

The project's implementation is supposed to begin in April.

Moreover, Oleg Kozhemyako promised that the Primorye stage of the Mariinsky Theater will present the One Thousand and One Nights – a colorful performance with multiple sceneries and many artists – in Belarus in August. “We have a mixed troupe from the Mariinsky Theater, Primorsky Krai, and Japan. Because Russia has certainly played the central role in Japanese ballet,” the governor noted.
