Belarusian Defense Ministry criticizes Poland for inadequate response to refugee situation

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – The response of Poland's leadership to resolve the refugee situation at the Belarusian-Polish border is absolutely inadequate, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The source said: “Instead of a dialogue and effective measures to resolve the migration crisis our neighbors continue building up forces near the Belarusian border in an unprecedented manner. The deployment of 15,000 military personnel, tanks, air defense systems, other kinds of heavy weaponry cannot be called an adequate response to migrants at the border. It looks more like the creation of an attack force. Actions of the Polish military run contrary to all international and bilateral agreements.”

Taking into account the unwillingness of Poland's military leadership to have a dialogue, the rejection of Belarus' steps meant to resolve problems in line with international norms, and due to unwarranted accusations of Belarus' Armed Forces and the Republic of Belarus as a whole, the Belarusian Defense Ministry is forced to take adequate response measures on its own and within the framework of the existing agreements with the country's strategic ally, the source said.

“Unlike our neighbors we are not going to rattle sabers. The system that has been created to respond to such attacks allows us to do everything to protect the sovereignty and independence of the country. Belarus' Armed Forces advise our neighbors to stop hysterics and rabid militarism and move towards resolving all problems via a dialogue,” the Belarusian Defense Ministry said.
