MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Vietnam are discussing the possibility to switch to national currencies in their settlements and to launch a direct flight between the two countries, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak told journalists after a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Hanoi, BelTA learned from the government's press service.
Belarus' government delegation is currently on a working visit to Vietnam. The parties are discussing current and future projects in priority areas.
Anatoly Sivak pointed out that the problem with logistics needs to be resolved: it takes up to 90 days to deliver certain groups of goods from Belarus to Vietnam and back. “The government is working on this. There is a designated working group. And the second issue has to do with settlements in national currencies. These two issues represent a certain obstacle today,” Anatoly Sivak said.
According to the deputy prime minister, the national air carrier Belavia is ready to operate flights to Vietnam. Yet, some technical issues need to be resolved to make this happen, which is to be done in the near future.
A reminder, Belarus and Vietnam plan to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector. Belarusian dairy products have been certified, and the procedures needed to start beef supplies are at the final stage. As a result, about 20 domestic enterprises will gain access to the Vietnamese market.
