MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ State Border Committee and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Belarus have signed a cooperation protocol, Belarus’ State Border Committee told BelTA.
A working meeting between Chairman of the State Border Committee Konstantin Molostov and Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Belarus Erol Arduç took place in Minsk on 19 September.
The meeting focused on improving interaction in border management, with due regard for protection needs, and enhancing the capabilities of the State Border Committee, including those of its local border service agencies. The parties also discussed issues related to providing aid to foreigners and stateless people. This includes those seeking international protection who have applied for refugee status, complementary protection, or asylum in Belarus, as well as individuals in vulnerable situations needing emergency aid.
As a result of the meeting, the participants signed a cooperation protocol. “The joint work of the State Border Committee and the UNHCR effectively supports efforts to enhance the migration capacity of the border agency and implement humanitarian missions of the United Nations,” the committee noted.
