Belarus, Russia to work out about 60 space data usage standards

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia intend to work out about 60 space data usage standards, BelTA learned from Sergei Zolotoi, Director of the R&D enterprise Geoinformation Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), on 25 March.

According to the source, seven programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in the space industry have been implemented already. The eighth one Integration-SG is in progress now. The application of space data and the development of unified rules are an international problem now. The Integration-SG program provides for developing common Belarusian and Russian standards to regulate the usage of space data. The standards will be harmonized with international ones. There will be about 60 standards like that, Sergei Zolotoi said.

Since Belarus and Russia have differences in their legal bases, regulations on using these standards will be worked out. The program will also be aimed at creating new technologies and new hardware and software solutions that will support these technologies, the official noted.

The implementation of the program began in 2020. The Belarusian side has already worked out one standard. It was approved by the State Standardization Committee in February and entered into force in Belarus. Another standard has been developed by Russia. “We and Roscosmos are now reconciling the list of standards, which will be developed this year,” Sergei Zolotoi added.
