Belarus, Russia to reinforce cross-border cooperation during 2nd European Games

MOSCOW, 17 September (BelTA) – Border services of Belarus and Russia will demonstrate constructive cooperation during the 2nd European Games 2019, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota said at the board meeting of the Union State Border Committee in Rostov-on-Don, BelTA learned from the Union State Permanent Committee.

“In his speech at the board meeting the state secretary of the Belarus-Belarus Union State stressed that in 2018 the border services of Belarus and Russia created conditions necessary to ensure the border security of the Union State. Grigory Rapota emphasized well-coordinated work of the border agencies of the two countries during the FIFA World Cup 2018. Constructive cooperation between the services, including the movement of foreign fans through Belarus' international checkpoints, contributed to the smooth organization of the event. Grigory Rapota expressed confidence that the border services of the two states will showcase the same level of cooperation during the 2nd European Games 2019 in Belarus,” said the Union State Standing Committee said.

Participants in the event discussed topical issues, including the implementation of the coordinated border policy of the Union State, security on the external border and within the border area. The meeting also focused on border infrastructure and technical equipment of the border units improved as part of the Union State's program “Improving the Border Security of the Union State” for 2017-2021.

Taking part in the board meeting were delegations of the Belarusian State Border Committee led by Chairman Anatoly Lappo and the Federal Security Service of Russia led by First Deputy Director, head of the Border Service of the Federal Security Service Vladimir Kulishov.

“According to the heads of the delegations, the adopted decisions will help improve the level of operational response of the border services of the Russian Federal Security Service and the Belarusian Border Service to violations at the Union State external border. They will also help use the potential of the border services in the most efficient way,” the Union State Permanent Committee said.
