Lukashenko arrives in Russia on working visit

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived in Russia on a working visit, BelTA has learned.
On 25 September, the head of state will take part in the Global Atomic Forum in Moscow. The forum is held under the slogan From a New Technological Paradigm to a New Worldview. It is the central event of the World Nuclear Week, which is held for the first time and is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry.
The Atom Museum at VDNKh has been chosen as the venue for the forum. It hosts Russia’s largest and most modern exhibition tracing the history of nuclear energy from the start of the Soviet nuclear project to the present day.
The Belarus pavilion is located nearby at VDNKh, housing trade and exhibition spaces. Earlier, Aleksandr Lukashenko had given instructions to ensure the effective operation of this venue. Thus, he may well use the opportunity to inspect the site’s operations personally. “It is important for me that this is a profitable venture. But it is even more important that the country’s achievements are showcased there. And our finest achievements, whether in food, clothing, or technology, should be sold at VDNKh, in our pavilion. It is in the very heart of vast Russia. A store, so to speak,” he said at a meeting in June 2022.

The nuclear forum will be attended by representatives of more than 100 states, including CIS countries, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The forum’s exhibition and business program will bring together renowned nuclear scientists, researchers, government officials, international organizations, and major companies. Belarusian enterprises and organizations are also taking part in the World Nuclear Week. The collective stand of Belarus at the forum’s exhibition presents innovative projects in nuclear energy, industry, science, education, and nuclear medicine. The project for the construction and commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is central at the exposition.

A number of high-level guests are expected in Moscow. In addition to the presidents of Russia and Belarus, attendees will include Myanmar’s leader, the prime ministers of Armenia and Ethiopia, the IAEA head, and senior officials from Iran, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Niger, and several specialized organizations. Therefore, it is highly likely that Aleksandr Lukashenko will hold a number of international contacts on the sidelines of the forum. He is expected to give a speech at the event.

The two-day visit includes a planned bilateral meeting between Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The heads of state will coordinate their positions on the most urgent matters of bilateral development, and exchange views on the regional situation and international agenda.
