Lukashenko meets with president of International Olympic Committee

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach on 30 June, BelTA has learned.

The parties discussed cooperation between Belarus and the International Olympic Committee in the promotion of Olympic movement. Thomas Bach is expected to attend the closing ceremony of the 2nd European Games.

Thomas Bach told Aleksandr Lukashenko that his first visit to Minsk took place some 50 years ago when he was an athlete. The ongoing visit is his send time in Belarus. “I cherish very good memories of that time,” he added.

A medal celebrating the 125th anniversary of the International Olympic Committee was presented to the Belarusian president at the meeting.

After the meeting with the Belarusian president, Thomas Bach talked to the media. He said that the 2nd European Games were organized well and congratulated Team Belarus on good performance. “I believe this gives the entire Belarusian nation a reason to be proud,” he said. Thomas Bach plans to attend some events of the 2nd European Games and study sports infrastructure of Minsk.
