Lukashenko instructs new heads of Belarus’ major enterprises to tackle problems

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed the new heads of Belshina, Gomselmash, and Mogilevkhimvolokno to resolve the problems facing these enterprises as he made personnel decisions on 13 October, BelTA has learned.

The president stressed that he had already drawn the attention of responsible officials, including Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi, to specific issues in the operation of these major enterprises. Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded that following the latest appointments, the situation must improve. “These people are said to be capable, as you have studied and reported. They must move these enterprises forward, and we must put an end to all the talk surrounding them,” the head of state said. “They must get these enterprises back on track, and you [addressing Dmitry Krutoi] should visit them more often and report everything that is happening there.”
He also emphasized that existing problems must be tackled using the enterprises’ own resources. “Do not expect to come and take money from the budget. Funds will be provided only for concrete product deliveries. If you have goods to sell for export and are confident that you will make a profit, we will lend you a kopeck. Once you sell, you return it. We are not talking about years, centuries, or decades. You take it today – you return it tomorrow. Only in this way,” Aleksandr Lukashenko warned.

The president touched upon the situation at Gomselmash separately, stressing that its former head Aleksandr Novikov, who has been approved as Chairman of the Gomel District Executive Committee, should assist the new director, Vitaly Sheleg, by sharing his expertise, experience, and skills. “Don’t interfere with his work, but help if he asks,” the head of state instructed.

Among the priorities for the new director, Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted the need to improve product quality, noting that this applies equally to other domestic industrial giants such as MTZ, MAZ, and BelAZ.
“Your machinery is needed everywhere, but you must move faster,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Quality comes first. If the quality is good, you can be sure that the main market, the Russian Federation, will buy your machinery. They need quality. They will pay less attention to your prices if the quality is high. Although, you certainly must not go overboard with pricing. Once again, quality is the priority.”

The president added that he plans to visit Gomselmash in the near future to personally assess the situation at the enterprise.
