MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - The idea of establishing a new CIS Plus format, which envisions the participation of third countries under the auspices of the CIS, is very useful, Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov told Russia 1 TV channel, TASS informs.
He said this format would, among other things, make it possible to bring all key regional bodies into the fold of tight cooperation. “The idea itself is very useful. Depending on the agenda being discussed at a particular meeting, we can expect the involvement of one state or another,” he said.
Yury Ushakov did not specify which particular states have already expressed a desire to join the CIS Plus. At the same time, he stated that joint summits “are unlikely to be held”. “However, representatives of certain organizations will be able to attend meetings of the SCO, the CIS, or BRICS. That is the point,” the Russian presidential aide explained.

Following the CIS heads of state summit in Dushanbe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported that the leaders of the member states had established the new CIS Plus format and granted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization observer status within the CIS.
