MOSCOW, 29 October (BelTA) – A meeting of the Commission on International Affairs, Migration Policy and Compatriot Relations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia was held via videoconference, connecting participants in Minsk and Moscow, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.
The parliamentarians were briefed on the progress in implementing the program of coordinated foreign policy actions of Belarus and Russia in 2024-2026. “The deputies noted the high level of interaction and coordination between the foreign ministries of the two countries,” the press service reported. “They affirmed that diplomatic support for Union State integration is consistent and effective. Particular attention is being paid to enhancing the Union State’s authority in the international arena through the adoption of joint statements at multilateral forums, which reflect shared approaches to current issues.”
The commission members emphasized the importance of coordination within the CIS, CSTO, EAEU, and SCO to address new security challenges and threats. They also highlighted the particular significance of joint work in the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War to counter the rehabilitation of Nazism and the falsification of history.
“Furthermore, the deputies noted progress in developing the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century,” the press service added. “They highly praised the initiative to hold the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security and emphasized the need to closely coordinate the positions of the two countries’ parliamentary delegations ahead of international events.”
The issue of parliamentary support for compatriots abroad was also discussed. The commission reviewed the work being carried out by both parliaments to protect compatriots’ rights and interests. The deputies proposed exploring the possibility of establishing joint Russian-Belarusian centers for legal assistance to compatriots and developing a Union State concept document in this area.
Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Commission on International Affairs, Migration Policy and Compatriot Relations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State, reported on the results of the Belarusian and Russian delegations’ participation in the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. It was noted that the representatives expressed a unified position, declaring the need to reset the international security system based on the principles of a multipolar world. The parliamentarians acknowledged common approaches with other “Eurasia group” nations on key agenda items, including compliance with humanitarian norms. In their speeches, they emphasized the special role of international humanitarian law and called on parliaments worldwide to facilitate the implementation of its norms in national legislation.
