Russia supports Belarus’ active involvement in BRICS activities

MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) - Russia calls for the active involvement of Belarus in BRICS activities, reads a joint statement by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia ,Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov, signed following the talks in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

"The Russian Federation is in favor of active involvement of the Republic of Belarus in the activities of BRICS. The Belarusian side lauds the efforts of Russia's chairmanship in BRICS in 2024 aimed at strengthening multilateralism for equal development and security," the document said.

Guided by the idea of "integration of integrations", the ministers confirmed the relevance of the idea of forming a Greater Eurasian Partnership as a key initiative to align the integration processes in the region, including the EAEU, SCO, ASEAN and the CIS, and the development plans of the EAEU and the China’s Belt and Road initiative based on the principles of openness, transparency and mutual respect for the interests of all participants.

Belarus and Russia welcomed the growing importance of the states of the Global South and East in the formation of a polycentric world.

"We intend to expand comprehensive mutually beneficial cooperation with the countries of Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America and their regional associations as a matter of priority, including through mutual support for expanding presence in the markets of these countries via  joint projects in the manufacturing sector, mining, agriculture, energy and new technologies," the foreign ministers said.
