Kremlin: Putin in favor of coordinated approaches to Afghan problem

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is in favor of coordinated approaches to the Afghan problem within the framework of the UN Security Council and the G20, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, TASS reported.

"In general, there is an understanding, and President Putin emphasized this in his speech, of the need to coordinate approaches, including within the framework of the United Nations, the Security Council and the G20," Dmitry Peskov said.

He also said that Moscow does not intend to interfere in the conflict between the Taliban and the resistance forces in the Afghan province of Panjshir. "Today, at a emergency session the CSTO also discussed the probability of such scenario, which is potentially fraught with another civil war in Afghanistan and which carries additional dangers and threats. Of course, we are not going to interfere in these events," Dmitry Peskov said.

He pointed out that Moscow is not planning to mediate between the parties. "No, this is out of question," the Kremlin spokesman said when asked a relevant question.
