MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) - The relations between Belarus and Myanmar are developing in a dynamic and progressive manner, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov said at the 2nd meeting of the joint Belarus-Myanmar committee on trade and economic cooperation, BelTA has learned.

“We in Belarus are very pleased with the progressive and dynamic development of our relations with Myanmar,” said Maxim Ryzhenkov. “In the last nine months alone, there have been five meetings between our countries' leaders, during which the entire spectrum of bilateral relations was discussed, sending a clear signal for all of us to build up bilateral cooperation across all areas.”

The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs recalled that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing held negotiations in Minsk on 7 March. Maxim Ryzhenkov noted that this visit established a clear “framework for the relationship” between Belarus and Myanmar and defined the key priorities for bilateral cooperation.

“The implementation of these agreements has had a direct impact on the development of trade and economic ties between our countries, which have recently seen significant growth across the entire range of product categories. The volume of goods purchased from Myanmar has also increased, which is a clear demonstration of mutually beneficial trade between our two nations,” he emphasized.
According to Maxim Ryzhenkov, the package of agreements includes initiatives across various fields - from agriculture to industry, and from education to people-to-people contacts. He assured that Belarus is ready for even closer cooperation with Myanmar on all fronts and is open to considering any promising proposals from their Myanmar friends.

Prior to the session of the joint committee on trade and economic cooperation, Maxim Ryzhenkov held a one-on-one meeting with Myanmar’s Union Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Wah Wah Maung. Addressing her, the minister of foreign affairs noted that a great number of representatives from various ministries and agencies of both Belarus and Myanmar have been recently working to advance relations between the two countries.

“The main responsibility falls on us as the co-chairs of the commission on trade and economic cooperation. We must bring together all the ideas, projects, and proposals and ensure their implementation,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.
