MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - A meeting of the CIS Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General member states took place in Dushanbe on 21 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, the CIS Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units, and the Executive Committee of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The CIS Executive Committee was represented by a delegation led by CIS Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Seitimov. He delivered a greeting to the Council members on behalf of CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev.
The greeting noted that the Coordinating Council is celebrating its 30th anniversary. This milestone coincides with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. At this time, it is more important than ever to focus joint efforts on preventing attempts to justify the monstrous crimes of Nazism.
“We all see that the existing world order is going through a difficult time. Under these conditions, the CIS states are focusing their attention on upholding the concept of common, comprehensive, and sustainable security. Cooperation between prosecutors general is one of the main vectors of interaction in this area. It is aimed at achieving a uniform understanding and application of law, and the close relationships developed over the 30 years of the Council's operation make it possible to effectively solve the tasks of protecting the constitutional order, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and strengthening the rule of law,” the address stated.
The letter also stated that in its activities, the Council consistently fulfills its assigned tasks, shows initiative, and creates and improves the foundation for prosecutorial cooperation. The preventive component is being strengthened, with citizens and society as a whole being widely involved in the work of prosecutor's offices. The introduction of information technologies increases the openness of prosecutorial activities. The coordinated and focused work of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General contributes to solving the tasks of maintaining stability and developing the economy.
During the meeting, the representatives of the prosecutors general offices exchanged relevant work experience, discussed the crime rate, investigative work, prosecutorial activities, and the practice of implementing treaties in the field of international legal cooperation in the fight against crime in the CIS countries. They also summarized the results of the implementation of the Interstate Program of Joint Measures to Combat Crime, the program of cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism, and the program of cooperation in strengthening border security on the external borders for the previous year. Furthermore, the participants of the meeting considered issues concerning the activities of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General for 2020-2025, and the training, retraining, and professional development of prosecutorial staff.
Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan was elected Chairman of the CIS Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General for 2026. The next meeting of the CIS Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General is planned for 2026 in Kazan.
