CIS looks to get observer status in CSTO

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) - The CIS is considering to become an observer in the CSTO, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Leonid Anfimov told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The CIS Plenipotentiaries Council will consider the issue of granting the CIS an observer status in the CSTO. The Council will take the decision today,” said Leonid Anfimov.

The CIS Executive Committee in Minsk is hosting a regular meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council on 15 February.

The meeting is expected to be attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Marat Syzdykov who is set to present the concept of Kazakhstan's presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2022 and an action plan for its implementation.

The plenipotentiaries will also discuss the draft agenda for the next session of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, which is due to take place in Dushanbe on 8 April.

The CIS plenipotentiaries will also discuss proposals to the draft agenda of the next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council. The meeting is scheduled for May in Nur-Sultan.
