SMEs account for 26.4% of Belarus' GDP in 2020

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Small and medium-sized businesses generated 26.4% of Belarus' GDP in 2020 (26.1% in 2019), BelTA informs citing the Belarusian National Statistical Committee.

Small business contributed 16%, medium-sized business contributed 7.3% and individual entrepreneurs contributed 3.1% to the country's GDP.

The proceeds from the sale of products, goods, works and services of small and medium-sized businesses amounted to Br158 billion in 2020, or 42.2% of the country's proceeds.

As of 1 January, there were 269,500 individual entrepreneurs and 111,400 small and medium-sized businesses in Belarus, including 96,600 micro-organizations (87% of the total number of small and medium-sized businesses), 12,600 small companies (11%) and 2,200 medium-sized companies (2%).

The most common types of SME activities are wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repair (34% of the total number of SMEs and individual entrepreneurs), transportation, warehousing, postal and courier services (12%), science and technology (10% ), manufacturing and construction (8% each).
