Shuleiko: Belarus will forge clear, mutually beneficial economic relations with DPRK

PYONGYANG, 26 March (BelTA) - Belarus intends to build clear economic relations with the DPRK on a mutually beneficial basis, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko, a member of the Belarusian delegation at the negotiations in Pyongyang, told the media, BelTA has learned.

According to him, economic cooperation between Belarus and the DPRK is gradually developing, including with the active assistance of the DPRK's embassy in Minsk. Bilateral trade is based on the supply of food products from Belarus (including powdered milk and meat products), pharmaceutical and agricultural products. Additionally, Belarusian BelAZ vehicles are in use in the DPRK. “These are the first steps in the areas that we will further advance in the near future,” the deputy prime minister said.

Yuri Shuleiko explained that for now, the parties are not setting themselves the goal of achieving any specific trade figures, because there are a number of objective and subjective difficulties in expanding cooperation. These include, for example, geographical distance from one another and sanctions. “The president said: get down to work. The figures will come; we will discuss them with our partners calmly,” the deputy prime minister noted. “We must build economic relations that work to our mutual advantage.”
