Senegal buys first batch of Belarusian dairy products via exchange

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) has registered the first exchange transaction for the export of dairy products to Senegal, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.

The transaction included a batch of whole milk powder in the volume of 125 tonnes. The seller was a large domestic milk processing company from Grodno Oblast, and the buyer - a Senegalese food importer with headquarters in Dakar.

To start working on the exchange, the Senegalese company used the address mechanism, applied on the BUCE since August 2024 and implies a simplified accreditation procedure for non-residents of the Republic of Belarus, a minimum exchange fee rate, as well as the possibility of concluding a contract with a pre-selected Belarusian supplier.

“Last year, residents of 24 countries purchased Belarusian dairy products on the commodity exchange. In January-March 2025 the list of importers has already includes 22 countries. Despite the decline in quotations, the amount of transactions increased by 20% to $139.4 million compared to January-March 2024. Senegal is of significant interest to Belarusian dairy producers. Firstly, Senegal is a large consumer of milk powder and regularly needs supplies from abroad to meet domestic demand, and secondly, the Senegalese market can serve as a transit hub for supplies to other West African countries,” the BUCE press service commented.

In March 2025, the first deal on import of milk powder through BUCE was also made by a company from Bulgaria. The volume of purchase amounted to 50 tonnes.
