Presentation of BUCE's capabilities in timber trade due in Moscow in September

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) will participate in one of the largest international forestry and timber forums – the conference “Russia's timber and sawn wood market 2020”. The conference will take place in Moscow on 16-17 September, BelTA has learned.

Participants of the conference are expected to discuss topical aspects of trade in forest products. Those include the influence of foreign factors on export volumes, development trends on the timber market of the European Union, China, and North Africa, joint transportation and logistics solutions for transporting forest cargoes, digital technologies in forestry industry. BUCE's report will focus on how exchange trade can be used to sell raw wood and converted timber on the home market and abroad. In particular, Belarus' positive experience of organization of export trade in sawn timber and waste wood will be presented. A pilot project for exporting Russian timber products to Belarus and third-country markets (transit deals) will be presented.

According to Aleksandr Bashly, Head of the International Relations and Communications Department of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, the arrival of Russian suppliers of timber at BUCE will allow satisfying the demand of Belarusian woodworking companies for hard-to-find species of wood and will allow reducing prices for raw wood. “In turn, the Russian side will be able to expand the geography of sales by getting access to sawn timber buyers from countries of the European Union, who are accredited with BUCE. We've already organized trade in Russian timber in the past, this is why we don't expect any technical or organizational problems,” he noted.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004. The first trade sessions took place in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest mercantile exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its key function is to assist Belarusian companies with exporting their products and assist foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. The commodity exchange facilitates trade in metals, timber, agricultural products, and a broad choice of industrial and consumer goods.
