Myasnikovich: Sanctions create conditions for economic growth

BREST, 21 June (BelTA) - Sanctions create conditions for the growth of national economies, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich told the media in Brest following the on-site meeting of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

“To some extent, sanctions create conditions for the growth of national economies. We are working within the framework of the Union State and can state that the volume of mutual trade is increasing and more and more joint companies are set up. Today, there are 21,000 joint ventures - Belarusian-Russian, Kazakh-Belarusian, Kazakh-Russian and others - operating within the Eurasian Economic Union. This is a great achievement. We have seen that the gross domestic product of each country is mainly formed by the integration contribution,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

In his opinion, the EAEU member states are showing more trust and more complementary economies. The EAEU has a considerably high level of self-sufficiency. This does not mean that we seek to stay away from contacts with third countries. We are in favor of developing business contacts, building good relations, including with the countries of the European Union. We do not threaten anyone. On the contrary, we are in favor of strengthening integration, including the domestic one, and ensuring economic cooperation with other partners," Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

He called the sanctions a sign of weakness of those who impose them. "When there are no other arguments, they resort to the so-called force methods. We keep in touch with the business community and they say that decisions made by politicians to limit these or those contacts or to sell goods are bad for business in the first place. They create jobs, strive to ensure the well-being of citizens, and then they have to deal with the intervention of forces that do not contribute to improving people's lives," Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

On 21 June Brest hosted an on-site meeting of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The delegation visited the enterprises and met with the business community - the largest Belarusian exporters and small and medium-sized businesses.
