Belarus' share in world's industrial production doubles over years of independence

MOSCOW, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus' share in the world's industrial production over the years of the country's independence has increased more than two times, Belarus' Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko said as he spoke to the media at the polling station for the Belarus' presidential election in Moscow on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

“Having spent many years working in the government, I can say with pride that if we take industrial development Belarus' share in the world's industrial production has gone up 2.34 times. These are the estimates of the World Bank and the United Nations,” Vladimir Semashko said.

According to the Ambassador, Belarus was often criticized for not stopping production during the pandemic. “Just have a look at the figures. Yes, we have a certain decline, some 1.5%, but this is not 8%, 10%, 30%. I am sure we will register growth by the end of the year. This is true in respect to all the sectors. If we take agricultural production, we are currently showing a 3% increase as against 2019. If we take agriculture in general, we addressed the food security issue long time ago. Moreover, we have made this sector export-oriented. Belarus exports $6-6.5 billion worth of agricultural products a year,” he said.

“We have a solid foundation to move further. It is important to choose the right direction, to choose the leader to make further steps,” Vladimir Semashko said.
