Belarus keen to boost food, machinery exports to Uzbekistan

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) - Belarus is prepared to increase exports of food products and machinery to Uzbekistan, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko said at a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan, BelTA learned.

“We know that Belarusian meat, dairy, and confectionery products are very popular in Uzbekistan. We are ready to expand deliveries of high-quality foodstuff, as well as products of the woodworking, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries, agricultural machinery, cargo vehicles, medicines, and household appliances,” Yuri Shuleiko said.
He emphasized that intensifying bilateral cooperation is impossible without creating favorable conditions. “We must support the development of a stable wholesale and retail trade infrastructure and expand cooperation at the level of financial institutions to develop mutually acceptable solutions for settlements between our entities engaged in foreign economic activity,” he added.

The Belarusian government sees significant potential in developing industrial cooperation with Uzbekistan and launching new joint projects. There are already successful examples of cooperation in the light industry. “In addition, due to growing demand, we are interested not only in expanding the range of food exports but also in establishing cooperation in the agricultural and food sectors,” the deputy prime minister noted.
There are also successful projects in other sectors. Belarus’ MTZ is working on organizing tractor assembly in Uzbekistan. MMZ together with the Planeta Servis company are implementing a project to establish diesel generator assembly production. A previously discussed initiative to build a cable and wire production facility in Uzbekistan has already yielded results, and the parties expect to see joint finished products in the near future.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation plays an important role in strengthening bilateral ties and mutual understanding between the two countries. “A large package of agreements in the humanitarian area was adopted during the official visit of the Belarusian president to Tashkent in February 2024. These agreements involve joint efforts to develop cooperation in education, culture, arts, sports, and tourism. It is important to ensure their effective implementation. We also need to give impetus to the work of the Belarus-Uzbekistan joint commission on cooperation in science and technology. We welcome joint scientific conferences, internships, and the training of Uzbek specialists in master’s and doctorate programs at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. There are also positive examples of cooperation in healthcare,” Yuri Shuleiko stressed.
“We strive to develop a multifaceted and constructive dialogue with Uzbekistan, which will always remain a close, brotherly state for us. I am convinced that the matters raised today and the decisions made will help strengthen ties in trade and other areas and lay a solid foundation for the further development of the full spectrum of Belarus-Uzbekistan relations,” Yuri Shuleiko concluded.
