Belarus’ Gomel Oblast achieves strong export growth in H1 2025

GOMEL, 29 July (BelTA) – Enterprises of Gomel Oblast saw an increase in their export deliveries to China, Türkiye, Cote d’Ivoire, and other countries in January-June 2025, Chairman of the Economic Department at the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Akunets said at the committee’s meeting to discuss the region’s social and economic development in January-June 2025, BelTA has learned.

Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko emphasized that the results of the region’s social and economic development in January-June 2025 are not just statistical data, but rather a point of reflection. “They are important to understand the direction we are headed, the areas where we see positive momentum and where risks require immediate action,” he stated.

In general, the region demonstrated positive dynamics. The gross regional product grew by 0.8%. “Given external constraints and unstable markets, this is a good result. The key drivers of the economy were construction, trade, food services, communications, and transportation. This means the domestic consumer market is active, and the service sector is gaining momentum,” Ivan Krupko said.

Mikhail Akunets presented information on the performance indicators and trends across all sectors. Seven out of nine key forecast targets were met: investment in fixed capital, nominal average monthly wages, total consolidated budget revenue, reduction in production and sales costs, production of import-substituting goods, commissioning of housing, and commissioning of state-supported housing.

“During the reporting period, regional enterprises increased exports to China by 1.8 times, Türkiye by 1.5 times, Cote d’Ivoire by 12 times, and other countries. Positive growth was also seen in exports to Zimbabwe, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and various African countries. Service exports also showed strong momentum,” he said.

Special attention was given to the development dynamics of the industrial and agricultural sectors. According to Ivan Krupko, in the second quarter several working meetings were held with leaders of key enterprises to discuss ways to further improve efficiency, implement investment projects, and optimize capacity utilization. “This is important, but we need more than just plans; we need results,” the governor emphasized.
