Another package of measures to support Belarusian economy amid pandemic

MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) – Support for the Belarusian economy amid the pandemic will not be limited to one package of measures, BelTA learned from Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas on 8 May.

The prime minister said: “The first package of measures the head of state has backed is not the last one. We will have to see how the situation develops. Today the government is working on about four presidential decrees, which will stipulate measures to support various branches of the national economy affected by the pandemic.”

The head of government discussed a draft presidential decree on supporting the tourism industry with Chairwoman of the Board of the Republican Union of Tourist Organizations (RUTO) Oksana Bichun on 8 May. According to Sergei Rumas, Belarus' tourism industry has a great potential. At present it accounts for about 2.5% of the country's GDP. In 2019 Belarus exported $265 million worth of tourism services, 15% up from 2018. “But there is no doubt that the potential of this industry is much larger,” the prime minister stressed.
